SYNOPSIS

1944. In a small Yugoslavian town, young Lenka distracts her blind little brother with wondrous tales. Their mother is dead, and their jewish father is in a concentration camp. Managing to escape, the father unexpectedly returns, but gets killed trying to protect Lenka's fiancé, a partisan. The latter, wounded, is powerless when the German SS take Lenka and her brother as prisonners. In the train that takes them to their death, Lenka makes up her best tale yet, telling her little brother they are heading for a happy future in the city (hence the title).
